Some of My Own Work
It occured to me that if I'm contantly pushing you guys to show me more line variation, the least I could do is show you some of my own drawings so as to let you see that I practice what I preach. Again, I'm a mostly figurative artist, but examine (and, hell, even critique if you want) my own use of line variation and for what purposes. Click HERE for a gallery of my drawings.

One of the first things I noticed when I met you was your t-shirt. You don't see your teachers in shirts with adds on them very often, but every class so far you have worn one. First class, you wore the Mountain Dew shirt and the second class the Superman shirt. Then I look through your art and you have a t-shirt series. Is this just because you are in love with the idea of being a walking billboard or does it all mean something? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteQuestion # 2- In the works labeled Contact 4-6, are the blurred parts of the figure photoshoped or did you paint it in a way that makes it look blurred?
ReplyDeleteI love Noir 9.
ReplyDeleteWow...well, in answer to question #1, I'll direct you to Charles Moore's blog, where he posted my artist's statement when my show of those paintings opened at the P & H: http://carlemoore.blogspot.com/2009/08/jason-cole-at-p-h.html To answer question #2: I had been experimenting with making my drawings into contact sheets that I would then use as a negative over photographic paper. I wanted areas that would go in and out of focus, but no matter how much I would crinkle and bunch my contact sheet I couldn't get the effect I wanted. The lines staid crisp in the developed photo no matter what I did. So, as a last resort, I used photoshop to duplicate exactly what I wanted.
